We were in Madrid for SICUR – The international Fire and Safety Exhibition in February and what a show it was. We managed to catch up with all of the UK and Irish Exhibitors at the show and had masses of positive feedback on all the great connections made and new business potential brought about because of the show.
SICUR really has cemented itself within the industry to be one of the best shows on the biannual calendar. We have now received the official statistics and the results really to speak for themselves.
A growing show
Growth was seen across all areas of the show which was host to a wide range of companies in the halls of the Madrid Trade Fair Centre. This year, 645 exhibitors (a 12% increase from 2016) represented a wide array of innovations in integrated safety and each of the sectors of the trade show: Security – Defence, Fire Prevention, Emergencies and Safety at work.
Visitor numbers increased by 3.5% with 43,732 professional visitors and a strong presence from national and international delegates.
It is noteworthy that this year there was a 4% increase in the number of visitors from outside Madrid, with a sizable number of visitors from Catalonia, Andalusia and Valencia.
International visitors were mostly made up of delegates from Portugal, Italy, France and the United Kingdom with a notable presence from the Ibero American area.
Another new feature of the 2018 show was the DEMO PRL demonstrations in Safety at Work, promoting best practises in occupational risk prevention. There were two live scenarios presented in different workplace environments as well as instructions for using the various items of personal and collective protective equipment necessary. DEMO PLR was developed in partnership with Association of Companies in Engineering, Assembly, Maintenance and Industrial Services, ADEMI.
The New Products Gallery boasted a wide range of advances resulting from the research and development by companies at the fair and 45 highly innovative design and technology proposals corresponding to Security, Safety at work and Fire prevention and emergencies.
The demonstrations by the canine units from the Catalan Mossos d’Esquadra and Basque Ertzaintza regional police forces and the exhibition of vintage police vehicles, Retropol VII organised by the Spanish Association of Security Managers (AEDS) all proved to be well attended valuable additions to the show.
SICUR 2018 was inaugurated on the morning of 20 February by the Minister of the Interior, Juan Ignacio Zoido. The opening ceremony was also attended by the Government Delegate in Madrid, Concepción Dancausa Treviño, as well as representatives from the Directorate General for Civil Protection and Emergencies at the Ministry of the Interior, the Directorate General for Safety, Civil Protection and Training of the Community of Madrid, and the State security forces.
